Community Guidelines

In Survivors.org Community Forums, we expect members to act in accordance with our community guidelines. Violating community guidelines may result in termination of your Survivors.org account. Forums are moderated by the Survivors.org team at our discretion. Moderation is done to protect all survivors using the forums, not to silence any survivor’s voice.

  • We moderate comments and delete potentially activating statements.
  • The use of slurs, hate speech, and any other form of discrimination against anyone else on the basis of their gender identity, sexuality, race or ethnicity, disability, or any other aspect of their identity will result in an automatic and permanent ban from the Survivors.org Community.
    • Pronouns must be respected at all times
  • Content warnings need to be given when content may be particularly activating. If you are disclosing your trauma, please use headlines only to prevent the retraumatization of others.
    • Posts involving graphic details of violence or assault will be removed.
    • Survivors.org staff and any representatives of Survivors.org are subject to mandatory reporting, so personally identifiable disclosures of the abuse of children, the elderly, and/or vulnerable adults will be reported to the appropriate state agency.
  • All survivors are to be believed and speculation on the validity of their stories is a violation of the community guidelines.
    • Any and all victim-blaming or speculative statements will be removed.
    • Not every survivor has the same opinions on these issues, invalidating others due to disagreements is not permitted.
    • Not every survivor has the same reaction to violence, invalidating others due to their response is not permitted.
    • Trauma is an individual experience that we do not get to define for anyone else.
  • We recognize that some perpetrators have a history of sexual violence against them.
    • While their experiences are valid, in order to keep other, non-perpetrating survivors safe, this is not the space for them.
  • We do not screen users to verify that they are members of the communities they have joined, so we ask that all Survivors.org users only join communities that they, or someone they are supporting, identify with.
  • Kindness and respect should be at the forefront of our words and actions, posts that are hurtful or disrespectful will be removed.
  • We will delete all arguments, not discussions, which we will use our best judgement to differentiate.
  • Survivors should be in control of their aftercare, this means we do not tell people how they should respond or pressure them into making decisions, including the decision to tell their story.
  • Any uses of AI or solicitation will result in removal from the community.

Community Guidelines are subject to change and will continue to evolve as our Community Forums grow. We encourage feedback and suggestions from all community members, with the understanding that Survivors.org is moderated by real human beings, often those who themselves are survivors.
