Types of Therapy

There are many different modalities, or types, of mental health therapy, and each one has its use. Some are best for helping people process and heal from trauma, while others are better for addressing fears and moods.

Trauma-informed modalities such as Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) are ideal for supporting victim-survivors of sexual violence who are working through traumatic memories. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), another widespread modality, is often used to address destructive thoughts and can help victim-survivors help overcome negative thoughts and assumptions about themselves.

These modalities, amongst others, can serve those who have experienced any difficult time in their life, including sexual violence.
